How Are Coatings Driving Our Sustainable Future?

Given the high demand today for the reduction of plastic packaging and also the requirement for recyclability or compostability with packaging materials, there is growing activity in the area of vacuum deposition and water based dispersion barrier coatings on packaging substrates. These coatings are aiming to provide alternatives to either extruded plastics, waxes and fluorocarbon treatments that provide resistance to grease and water today.

Stewart Richards and Keith Damarell will give presentations on the key methods for coating polymeric and paper substrates both on machine and off machine with a focus on the current capabilities of achieving barrier functionality as alternatives to waxes, fluorocarbons and plastic coatings.
