SUMMARY:Sealing & Packaging Technology - Seminar - Philly March 10th &
  11th
DESCRIPTION:About the seminar:\n\nSealing Technology for Packaging Pro
cesses is designed to give engineers a complete understanding of the v
arious techniques for applying heat to flexible and semi-rigid packagi
ng in order to achieve quality seals. A quality seal is critical for p
roduct protection from environmental conditions that can lower return
levels, shorten shelf life, and hasten spoilage. Positive brand qualit
y perception tamper prevention also result directly from safe, well de
signed sealing. This two day seminar covers various sealing technologi
es, seal testing procedures, adhesive sealing, polymer film and foil c
haracteristics and process / package validation.\nWho should attend:\n
\nAny personnel in the R&D, testing, process, design, fabrication and
manufacturing of food, pharmaceutical, medical, cosmetic, chemical, ve
terinary or industrial product packaging can benefit from this unique
course. Packaging, film and foil personnel will also benefit.\nBenefit
s of attending:\n• Learn to choose the optimum sealing process for a
ny situation\n• Learn how physics and chemistry apply to producing a
high integrity seal\n• Learn the mechanics of heat sealing equipmen
t and component interaction\n• Learn which types of seals are accept
able in the marketplace\n• Learn about the integration of sealing eq
uipment into a packaging line\n• View the heat sealing process throu
gh technical data, graphs and formulas\nCourse concepts:\n• Thermal
heat sealing behavior\n• Impulse heat sealing\n• Dielectric heatin
 g theory\n• Ultrasonic welding\n• Secondary combinational sealing
 processes\n• Induction sealing\nAbout the instructor:\nDr. Duncan Da
rby, Associate Professor for the Packaging Science Department at Clems
on University, is a recognized expert in the use and manufacture of fl
exible packaging. He has over 20 years of experience in the flexible p
ackaging industry, developing and providing technical support for seal
able packaging materials for dairy products, shelf-stable products, be
verages, dry products, confectionery products and pharmaceutical produ
cts. Duncan has real-world, hands-on experience with multiple package
formats including pouches, cups with lidding and blisters with blister
-backing, and has worked with many horizontal and vertical packaging l
ines. He holds a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the University
of Louisville, KY, where his coursework concentrated on polymer scien
ce and applications. He teaches courses at Clemson, conducts short cou
rses on a variety of subjects and provides consulting services for ind
ustrial clients. Duncan has been a featured speaker the TAPPI PLACE, G
lobal Pouch and E5 conferences.\n\nFor more information visit https://
